Collin County Released Inmate Records
Release means that one custodial episode has ended. It does not always mean the person walked out free of every restraint. At the Collin County Detention Facility, a person can leave on bond, after time served, after a case disposition, or under another court order. A person can also leave because another jail, TDCJ, or immigration authorities accepted custody. The release type and destination matter as much as the date. The Sheriff's release data records the physical event, while the court file explains the legal authority behind it.
A released person normally drops from a current-custody roster. That makes the live roster a poor long-term archive. Collin County preserves a short recent-release view, a one-to-seven-day downloadable report, maintained sheriff records, and court records with much longer reach. Each source answers a different question. Match the name with an SO number, booking date, date of birth, or case number when possible. Similar names alone are weak proof.
Collin County Release Types Explained
Collin County's live workbook has shown several distinct release labels, including Personal Recognizance, Served Time Only, Surety Bond, Bond With Conditions, Probation, and Released to Immigration. Those are verified examples, not a promise that every report uses the same complete list. Read the row as published and compare it with the court case. A dismissal on one charge, for instance, does not rule out another hold.
| Release type | What it means | Where to verify next |
|---|---|---|
| Bond | The person leaves custody while the case continues under bond terms. | Release report and court bond order |
| Time served | The custodial time identified by the order has been completed. | Judgment, sentence, and jail release record |
| Probation | A court has imposed community supervision rather than continued confinement. | Court docket and Collin County CSCD |
| Parole | TDCJ prison release is conditional and supervised by the Parole Division. | TDCJ and Board of Pardons and Paroles |
| Transfer | Custody moved to another agency or facility. | Recorded destination and receiving custodian |
| Dismissal | The named charge ended, subject to any other case or hold. | Clerk's docket and all linked cases |
- Discharge
- Completion of the sentence or supervision status defined by the responsible authority.
- Time served
- Credit or completed jail time that satisfies the custodial term in the order.
- Detainer
- A request or authority that may keep a person held for another agency.
- Parole
- Conditional release from TDCJ prison under state supervision.
- Probation
- Court-ordered community supervision, called community supervision in Texas law.
Collin County Release Record Fields
A useful release record links identity, confinement, and the end of custody. The Collin County Arrests & Releases workbook has a dedicated “Inmate Releases” sheet. Verified fields include SO number, name, race, release date, release time, release type, offense description, bond type, bond amount, and bondsman name. The same workbook also has an “Inmate Arrests” sheet. It does not embed a booking photograph.
| Field | What it shows |
|---|---|
| SO number and name | Identifiers used to match the correct jail episode |
| Release date and time | When county release processing was recorded |
| Release type | The recorded reason or route out of county custody |
| Offense description | The listed offense tied to the record, not a finding of guilt by itself |
| Bond details | Bond type, amount, and bondsman information when applicable |
| Transfer destination | A receiving authority if maintained and public; request it when the display is unclear |
The public display may omit fields held in the maintained inmate record. A narrow request can seek admission and release times, releasing authority, release type, and transfer destination. Court records supply the order, case disposition, and later changes. Neither source should be stretched beyond its role.
How Collin County Bond Release Works
Bonds are accepted around the clock at the county facility. Collin County distinguishes cash, surety, personal, and qualified pretrial release bonds. The pretrial release fee is the greater of 3 percent or $20. A surety processing fee is $15 per bond, capped at $30 for all Class B-and-above bonds posted at that time. These fees and processes should be checked against the current county pages before payment.
A Collin County charge can also be bonded through a city jail. The bond is signed at that city jail and brought to the Sheriff's Office for processing. That means the physical exit may occur at a city holding facility even though the county sheriff processes the bond and the Collin County court keeps the case. Bond release does not end the prosecution. The docket remains the best source for later settings and orders.
Where Collin County Releases Happen
The Detention Bureau identifies Admissions and Release as the primary entrance and exit point at the Collin County Detention Facility. Property, bond, and release counters are nearby. The county does not publish a fixed release-hour schedule, an exit-door map, or a family waiting and transport rule. Magistration windows listed in the jail FAQ are court-processing periods, not promised exit times.
Timing can change because orders, bonds, identity checks, holds, property processing, and a receiving agency must be reconciled. Call the Detention Bureau information line when a current processing question cannot be resolved online. Do not use a judge's usual magistration period to predict a release hour.
The official description is visible on the county's Admissions and Release page.
The image helps identify the correct county bureau, but a direct call is still needed for case-specific release processing.
Request Collin County Release Records
Older jail records are requested in writing from the Collin County Sheriff's Office under Texas Government Code Chapter 552. Start at the Sheriff Open Records page. Requests may be submitted through the current online portal, by mail, or in person. Ask for existing fields instead of asking the office to research a narrative question.
- Identify the person with full name, SO or booking number, booking date, and a narrow date range.
- Request the existing inmate or booking record, admission and release date and time, release type or authority, and public transfer destination.
- Submit through the linked portal or send the written request to CCSO Open Records at the jail address.
- Track the request and respond if the office sends a cost estimate or asks for clarification.
- Request court documents from the correct clerk, since the sheriff does not release court records.

A $5 search charge can apply when the offense or call number, jailing date, or other needed locator detail is missing. The listed certified-copy fee is $1. The office processes requests in received order. It has ten business days to release records or take the response step required by law, which is not a guarantee of final production within ten days. Attorney General review can add substantial time.
The Sheriff records-request portal supports submission, tracking, and downloads.
The portal image shows the entry point; the stable Open Records page remains the best route if a session link changes.
Collin County Release Record Access
Texas Government Code Chapter 552, the Public Information Act, governs sheriff records subject to exceptions and other laws. A governmental body must produce public information promptly or take the required response action. Court judicial records follow court and clerk access rules, so a jail-record request cannot substitute for a certified judgment or docket filing.
Medical details, victim-identifying data, security-sensitive material, some active-investigation content, juvenile information, and sealed or expunged records can be restricted. Texas expunction procedures now appear in Code of Criminal Procedure Chapter 55A. An expunction is not automatic because a charge was dismissed or custody ended. An order of nondisclosure under Government Code Chapter 411, Subchapter E-1 is different. It limits public disclosure in defined circumstances.
The seven-day report window is not a retention rule. Older records may still be maintained even when they are no longer free to download. If an official case is unavailable because access is restricted, use the clerk or legal counsel to understand the order rather than searching for unofficial copies.
After Collin County Inmate Release
Collin County publishes unusually precise post-custody steps. When property remains after a transfer to TDCJ, the notified designee may claim it from 6 to 9 a.m. daily. Unclaimed property is donated after 15 days. These rules concern property left after transfer, so they should not be confused with proof of release to the community. Check the Inmate Property page before arranging pickup.
A released person seeking qualifying continuing medication must contact jail Medical within 48 hours. Calls are accepted around the clock. Under the FAQ's limits, an eligible chronic-care or mental-health prescription may cover 30 days without refills once the chosen pharmacy opens. The released person pays pickup costs, and controlled substances and over-the-counter drugs are excluded. For continuity of care, a physician's office can send the required medical-release form by fax to (972) 547-5390. This is records and access information, not medical advice.
Search Collin County Released Inmates
Begin with the last known custodian and an approximate date. The fastest source for a new county event is the rolling recent-release lookup. For completed prior days, use the Arrests & Releases report. A current-roster absence cannot show whether the person bonded out, finished time, moved to TDCJ, entered another jail, or transferred to immigration custody.
- Use the county inmate-information page for current inmates and releases within the past 24 hours.
- Use the Store Front report for one through seven completed prior calendar days. Match the SO number and other identifiers.
- Open the Collin County court case for the bond, dismissal, judgment, sentence, revocation, or other legal basis.
- Search TDCJ when a transfer to state prison is possible. A transfer is continued custody.
- Use VINE for custody-change alerts, BOP for a federal prisoner, or ICE only when that custody is indicated.
- Request the maintained sheriff record when the public windows have closed.
A strong conclusion combines the physical custodian's release record with the legal custodian's case or supervision record. A release row plus a bond order supports a bond-out finding. A county transfer row plus a TDCJ match supports continued state custody.
Collin County Recent Release Search
Collin County has two official windows that overlap but are not identical. Online Judicial Search includes current inmates and people released within the past 24 hours. The Store Front generator creates a free Excel workbook for one through seven prior calendar days. Selecting one day covers yesterday from midnight through 11:59:59 p.m. It is not the immediately preceding rolling 24 hours.
Select three days for the closest official three-day view. There is no separate static 72-hour feed. A release after midnight today may appear in the rolling lookup before it enters the next completed-day workbook. The county does not promise a minute-by-minute update rate for the spreadsheet. After seven days, use open records and the court case rather than assuming the record was destroyed.
The county's Arrests & Releases generator displays the day-range control and exact interval.
The generated workbook is a short-window source; the maintained record and court docket remain the older-event fallback.
TDCJ Search for Collin Releases
The TDCJ Inmate Search applies to Texas prison custody, not every person booked in Collin County. Search by TDCJ number or SID number when known. A name search should be checked against date of birth and conviction details. The key public field is “Projected Release Date.” It is prospective and can change; it is not an actual exit record.
| Search field | Use | Check against |
|---|---|---|
| TDCJ number | Preferred state identifier | Name and conviction county |
| SID number | Texas state identification | Date of birth and offense |
| Name | Broader lookup when ID is unknown | Date of birth and conviction details |
| Projected Release Date | TDCJ's current calculation | Scheduled fields and later actual release |
For prior TDCJ custody, request incarceration history through the official email channel. TDCJ asks for the full name and seven-digit TDCJ number, or exact date of birth when the number is unknown, at pia@tdcj.texas.gov. There is no charge for that information channel. The active search should not be described as a full archive of all discharged people.
The official TDCJ search screen shows the state lookup fields.
This state search becomes relevant after a TDCJ transfer; it does not replace Collin County's jail release report.
Collin County Release Court Records
Collin County's Case Information hub offers three practical routes. Online Judicial Search connects inmates and warrants to criminal cases and is described as updated around the clock. General Case Search is updated daily at 6 p.m. and includes stated historical ranges. The Tyler portal requires the correct case type. Together, these court tools extend far beyond the seven-day release workbook.
Search by name, case or citation number, and court. A bond order can explain release pending trial. A judgment can show sentence terms and jail credit. A dismissal resolves the listed charge but not another case or hold. A revocation or capias can explain later custody. Request felony district documents from the District Clerk, County Court at Law records from the County Clerk, and justice-court records from the responsible justice court.
Collin County Release Supervision Checks
Parole follows a TDCJ prison sentence and is supervised by the TDCJ Parole Division after a Board decision. Probation is court-ordered community supervision handled through the local court and Collin County CSCD. Release on bond creates neither status by itself. A favorable parole vote also may precede physical release because audits, programs, detainers, and processing can remain.
Texas VINE supports person-specific custody searches and notifications for participating feeds. Confirm that the reporting agency is Collin County or the relevant custodian. For state prison, parole, and mandatory-supervision events, TDCJ's IVSS is the proper notification layer. Alerts show a reported custody change, but the releasing facility remains the source for an exact timestamp and destination.
Use the VINE Inmate Check for notification steps or the post-release supervision resources when a parole or probation status must be confirmed.
Collin County Release Transfers
Immigration is a documented local branch. The county workbook includes “Released to Immigration,” and the Collin County sheriff signed a 287(g) Jail Enforcement Model agreement on January 5, 2026. When that label or another immigration indicator appears, check the ICE Online Detainee Locator and request the recorded destination. A county roster disappearance may be an ICE handoff, not community release.
The ICE locator uses a nine-digit A-number and country of birth, or exact biographical data. It includes current detainees and certain people released from ICE custody during the preceding 60 days. A no-result can reflect an input mismatch, transfer, removal, an older release, or no ICE custody. It is not proof of release.
For federal prison, use the BOP Inmate Locator. It covers federal prisoner records from 1982 onward and can show “Released” or “Not in BOP Custody.” That means BOP custody ended, not that no state, immigration, or supervision status followed. The U.S. Marshals Service has no comparable public historical-release locator for federal pretrial prisoners.
Where Collin Release Records Appear
The correct source follows the custodian and the age of the event. Check more than one official record when the distinction between release and transfer matters.
| Situation | First source | What it can establish |
|---|---|---|
| Still in county custody | Online Judicial Search | Current county confinement and linked case data |
| Released within 24 hours | County inmate lookup | Recent custody status in the rolling window |
| Released in prior 1-7 days | Arrests & Releases XLS | Recorded date, time, type, and related fields |
| Older county event | Open Records and court case | Maintained jail fields and legal disposition |
| State prison custody | TDCJ search | Location and projected release information |
| Federal custody | BOP locator | BOP status and release date within its coverage |
Collin County Release Facilities
The Collin County Detention Facility is the primary adult booking and release site. Its records can show community release or transfer to another custodian. The John R. Roach Juvenile Detention Center is a separate county juvenile facility. Juvenile release can be to a parent or guardian, but confidentiality rules make the adult sheriff search and release workbook inappropriate for juvenile research.
Municipal police facilities in Allen, Frisco, McKinney, Plano, and other cities may hold people for a short time. Request an arrest or incident record from the department that made the arrest. A Collin County criminal case can still appear in the county courts even when the person never entered the main county jail.
